Tuqiri ponders return to rugby league

Wallabies winger Lote Tuqiri is keen to follow Mat Rogers back to rugby league, the flyer declaring he'd like to play the 13-man game again.

Rogers on Wednesday confirmed a move to the nascent Gold Coast Titans after the 2007 Rugby World Cup and former Brisbane Bronco Tuqiri was quick to make it known rugby league was also on his mind.

"I'm not going to say, 'no I wouldn't like to play it again'," Tuqiri told Channel Nine.

"League has always been in my blood and it was the first game I played so there'll always be a passion there ... the answer is probably `yes, I would like to play it again'."

While the Australian Rugby Union is prepared to wait until next year to lock in the 26-year-old beyond 2007, NSW Waratahs coach Ewen McKenzie wants contract negotiations with Tuqiri accelerated.


Hadden looks to new Scots era

Frank Hadden believes that Scotland can compete at the very highest level of international rugby, ahead of the 2007 World Cup in France.

"The players have worked hard and we're all focused on the World Cup," he said on the first anniversary of being appointed the Scots' national coach.

"I know we can compete with the best - there's every reason for us to be excited with the World Cup coming up.

"Rugby is very important in Scotland, so it's vital we do something special."

Hadden steered Scotland to third place in this year's Six Nations tournament.

Uganda: Rugby Cranes Relocate for Morocco Training

IN a move to get more acclimatised to pitch conditions, the Rugby Cranes have moved from Kyadondo grounds to Kampala Rugby Club for drills ahead of their crunch tie against Morocco September 9.

Uganda host Morocco at Kyadondo ground in a return leg of the Confederation of Africa Rugby (CAR) 2007 World Cup qualifiers that would have the winner top the group that also has Ivory Coast.

"We need the home turf advantage and the earlier the boys get acclimatized to it the better" assistant coach Yayiro Kasasa said.

Rogers Set For League Return

Australia full-back Mat Rogers is set to return to rugby league with new franchise Gold Coast Titans, who will join the National Rugby League in 2007.

The 30-year-old Wallaby is expected to announce tomorrow that he is to end his spell in rugby union by joining the Titans for a two-year deal said to be worth £240,000.

The move will take place once the former Cronulla winger finishes his contract with the New South Wales Waratahs at the end of next season.

He is currently sidelined with a knee injury but is expected to return to training early next month.

Rogers won 11 caps for the Kangaroos and was a member of their 2000 World Cup-winning team before switching codes.
